A friend who knows I collect Coke stuff called me about a machine that his neighbor has. It is a Coke Glasco GBV 50. From his description it has the original coin mech, cap catcher, rack and appears to be a straight machine except for some metal damage at the very bottom of the front of the machine where the venting would be. Compressor may not work but it might just need re-wiring. Paint is rough but no rust and no keys. I may be able to get it for under $200.00. Never thought about buying a slider but this seems like a good deal--assuming the compressor can be brought back to life? How hard are these to restore and is this a good deal? Sorry-no picture at this time. I may be able to go check it out on Friday or next week. Thoughts? Thanks! Tim

For under $200 - even if the compressor doesn't work, you are way ahead on parts value alone

Don't you love those deals that just come to you? No chasing required.
I'd jump at that one, and quickly.
Good luck!

Again, parts..........parts..........parts, although they are the easiest machine to restore they are also somewhat more common. You will be in the driver's seat as far as price since you will be the only one interested in his machine. Here's proof, I placed the minimum bid on this Glasco near me last week and was the only bidder, although nearly 350 people visited the auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260330227744&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:US:1123 I sold an identical working cooler last month for $1000.00 and have another one that is restored, asking $2500 but it doesn't get nearly as much attention.

I saw that one Glen (1 of 350) - great score! Speaking of parts, parts, parts... I'm still looking for a Glasco slug rejector housing if anybody has one.

hmmmm, you guys got me wondering, I have a lead on a non embossed Ideal 85, asking 100, ssaid he'll take bbrest offer. Haven't seen it, but it sounds like it's missing the coin mech unit, but the rack is stll there. Supposed to go out there tonight, winter storms coming in for tomorrow and sunday, so limited on windows of oppurtunit. Aren't the 85's slightly larger? My knowledge on sliders is limoited : " damn they are cool"

Nooooooo.............the 85 or 300 may have been great for schools or factories in their day, but too big to be acceptable for home use. The only common parts are the cap catcher and coin mech. which is missing on your 85. Stick to 55's and better yet 35's.
