Even if you aquired sliding lids and hardware......proper gasketing may be a problem?
I think that by re-making your wooden lids into metal would get your restoration on track.

I agree with Glen. The wood lids look good So I would have them copied in metal and no one would ever know that they were not original. You may even be able to have the wood lids skinned with stainless and use the wood as the core.

What do you guy's think about a new gasket ? Kinda odd it goes over the liner and then creates a ledge and then goes under the outer skin . I think I will just keep the lid the way it is and like you guy's said just have them remake it in stainless . Thanks

Are we even sure they were slider lids... don't know if I've ever seen sliding lids go
across a rubber gasket all I've ever seen is metal sliders in metal tracking/rails or
what ever you call it.... though I haven't seen every type cooler.... But if they did it would have to be a hard rubber gasket a softer gasket would catch.... here's a similar cooler
that has flip lids.. I think someone on the site bought this and may be
able to supply detailed pictures... can't remember who....

Also... the gasket doesn't look like it sets down deep enough for 2 lids to slide over each other
I would think that ledge /lip would have to be an 1 1/2“ - 2“ inches deep for sliding lids.
Im begining to think it's an older flip top model personally.... maybe early 40s?just my opion...
here's a cardboard sign.. again the same era with flip top lids... though it's an artist
rendering it has lids that look like they set down along that edge.

Just noticing that the embossed “DRINK” looks the same on the NEHI as on the RC
I posted... but.. maybe that was the standard design/font used for that era logo.

I'm in agreement with Eric...looks like it had lids that sat recessed and flush with the top of the sides. Sliding lids would not slide on rubber gaskets.

Yea I agree I think it had the same lid style that it currently has . Looking at the seal they fit perfectly just been replaced at some point . The guy told me the he thought the hinges where original . I just got side tracked on the manufacture and thinking it might have had slide lids because of info on a Pelco Koolie . There is no way it did the rubber seal is original and like you said its not a very deep ledge that the lid sets down on . I think I could just take the wooden lids and have some stainless one's made just need to find a similar rubber seal . Thanks guys  smile
