I too, like the look of the recessed door. The original coin door is the only thing that detracts from the looks of the 56 (other than the solid bottle door).
Nice job Joey!

Looks great Joey! I remember that meat smoker!
If you ever wanted to put a V-39 or V-81 in use somewhere, I'm pretty sure I could rig up a mech that would vend on the dollar coin (Susan B. Anthony or Sacajawea). All I would need would be the mech out of the 25 or 50 cent Laundromat type coin changers (see pic below) and you'd have to widen the coin slot on the bezel just a little. I think the 50 cent might work best, but I don't have one to play with (coin or mech). My only real concern is that a quarter might still work with the quarter mech and a half dollar might still work with the 50 cent mech, but I think I could fiddle with the various adjustments a while and modify a piece or two to get it to work correctly.
I would think there would be some sort of bill changer out there that exchanges dollar coins for paper money.

Yes - short lived coins and you don't see them much in everyday use, but the stamp vending machine at local Post Office here uses them for change. The Susan B. Anthony dollar was so similar to the quarter in size and look too somewhat that most people did not like them. The Sacajawea dollar coin was easier to spot because is was gold in color, but again you don't see too many of them either. The Lincoln half dollar has been around since 1964 - I do not know for sure if they still mint it though. You do not see many of them anymore in everyday use too. Like Josh mentioned - people just do not carry around much change anymore - I don't unless we are going somewhere with the kids that I'll need quarters!

Thanks for the compliments guys, a dollar bill acceptor will be fitted into my next machine, a Cavalier 96. It will be alot easier of a project. Where the 56 is going there is a small arcade there with a change giver.

Yes, the Kennedy half-dollars are still minted. The current dollar coins are the gold Presidential Dollars, with 4 presidents coming out each year (only the non-living presidents will be represented).
