I’m just about finished with my first ever Coke machine restoration  biggrin(it’s a Vendo 39) but I seem to be having trouble getting the latch on the main door to work properly.  The latch will grab the striker ok but when I push the handle all the way up to lock the door tight, the handle wants to pop back down.  I’ve added washers and I‘ve taken washers out. I’ve moved the striker up and I’ve moved the striker down.  None of this seems to make any difference. It won’t stay tight. darn

Any ideas on what the typical adjustment is to make the latch hold tight?

Could the handle actually just be worn out?

Thanks

Yes, the handle is worn. It should be slightly rectangular where the latch meets
the body, but yours has been worn "rounded" at that critical point.

Joey,

I guess I do need a different one.  I was thinking of trying to build up the hinge up with my welder but if you have a replacement I'll go that route.  I'll  send an email to your Yahoo account.

Not sure if your problem is the same, but as a solution to the original question in this post, as stated the pivot point on the latch has become rounded out.
Remove it, open it fully and grind one edge of the latch until the corner becomes square again, re-install and shim if needed.

There's supposed to be two spacers behind the flange on the liner; one for each 1/4-28 that fastens the receiver. If these are not installed, there is the possibility of setting the receiver too far back, the spacers prevent this, thus a possible issue with correct door latch function...

My six cents,

Thankfully, the 2 washers worked ...
