There is a VMC 144 for sale here locally. I have no interest in it, but it is cheap... It is the manual version. Is the coin mech a large door one? I asked Joey earlier and he said no, but it sure seems like I saw one and it was the standard large door type.

The 144 is the middle machine of the V-80, V-144 and V-216 line. All used electric mechs and columns to vend - some were single selection and others multi-selection. The V-80 did not have much of a pre-cool section, but the V-144 and the V-216 had areas on each side of the columns for pre-cool.

Tom, This is a manual version... It has a crank handle on it. I was just curious if it had a large door coin mech in it.

That might be the one in there since it is a VMC machine, but I don't think that would fit inside a 144 coin door. But I have only seen pics of a VMC-144, so I could be wrong. I've never seen even a pic of a 144 with a crank - so either somebody went to a lot of work converting it (maybe it doesn't work?) or it is a one-of-a-kind.
Marvin, Is that the type crank on it or does it have the more familiar "Press Down" crank handle?

It had the press down handle on it. I decided it had a large door mech in it after all. I decided to call the guy after all and he said I missed it by a few hours... Oh well. I don't really need it anyway. http://memphis.craigslist.org/for/689241799.htmlMarvin

Sorry for coming in late. Yes the machine has a large door coin mech. The VMC88 had two versions. One is the 144SA which is the electric version and has three selections and the manual version. The manual version is basically an extra tall VMC88.

My first thought when looking at it is that it has a VMC88 coin door. Looking in Walter's 3rd book though I see it pictured and he says it is basically a tall VMC88, so yes it was a LD coin mech. I would have called on that in a heartbeat for $125 (big or not) - sorry you missed it.
Josh beat me to it, but will post anyway~
