Finally got into the Select-O-Matic I bought a little while back. It appears that my vend motor is bad - anybody have a working one for sale or trade or know where to buy a new replacement?

This is one of the harder parts to find, caution...the motors core is held onto the gear motor by 4 left-handed threaded long screws... be very carefull if you decide to try to take it apart! they snap like twigs!!! been there done that ...  the original was made by Merkle-Kroff in Germany, they are still in business, but this motor is obviously obsolete |

Thanks for the word of advice! This is a MK motor - it has three threaded oil spouts with spring loaded covers - I unscrewed the spouts today, which allowed me to slide the body off - it has these odd cone-shaped nuts (at least that is what I'd call them and I think they are nuts) holding the gear and core together. Had no idea how to remove them - glared at it a little while longer and closed it back up. I'll try to post a pic sometime. |

You should have somewhere local that can rewind the motor for you and get it working as good as new.

I took it down to a small M&P electric motor shop and left it with him. We'll see if he can get the original working.  |

That's good that you found a shop to take a look at your motor. Consider yourself lucky!
Most shops will not look at the small incremental H.P. motors anymore, I ran into this problem when I was assisting MCarter in the restoration of his U-Pop-It Popcorn Machine. His mechanism motor took a dump and needed to be rewound/replaced. I called a bunch of shops here in Indiana and Kentucky, small and large, and struck out. Nobody would touch it.
For others, I would recommend that if you are in this predicament, find a local shop that reworks/rewinds electric motors and instead of calling them to find out if they are willing to take a look at your motor just take the motor directly to them. A lot of these guys are visual types meaniing they need to see the peice before commiting to fix it over the phone. Saying "No" is easy. Sometimes when they see it in person they can relate better to it and even take it on as a challenge. Just a suggestion.

In Cincy we have taken motors to alternator shops before and they they did it for us.

are afraid to commit to repair anything over 10 years old.

Well, I picked up my motor yesterday - the guy said the motor worked but the gear was shot.  BUT.... Yesterday morning (before I picked up my motor) I went to a closeby yard sale that had advertised on Craigslist that they had a CC machine. It was a WC78 that was mostly complete and cooled, but kinda beat up. Lady wanted $100 and I walked away from it. After getting the bad news about my motor, I went back to the yard sale this morning. The machine was still there - I mocked a vend and the motor turned  I said I'd give her $50 and loaded it up. So I'll probably keep the sign, the vend motor, coin door and the compressor as a spare for the 60. Anybody need a nice 78 stack with spacers? Anything else on the machine? The selector knob is busted, but the faceplate is good. Cap Catcher? Condensation pan? You pay shipping - that's it. |
