Greetings!

I just got a 1950 Vendo 39 in original condition.  It seems to be complete and cools VERY well (I unplugged it at 21 degrees).  The coin mechanism takes only dimes, and vends at 10 cents.  I don't know enough about the coin rejectors as I would like to, and I haven't got my V-39 manuals yet, so I'm not sure if I can change this one or not.  A nickel doesn't go through the rejector - it's too fat.  There are definite differences between this one and the rejector on my SV-48, which takes both nickels and dimes.  I really want to put this back to 5 cents.  Do I need a different rejector, or can this one be adjusted?  Would pictures help??

Thanks!

Hi Greg,
Sounds like you have a dime rejector.
NRI (National Rejectors Inc.) made all sorts of rejectors - nickel, dime, nickel/dime, nickel/penny, quarter/nickel, quarter/dime, etc.
They also made all sorts of coin mechs.
If you can post pics, I can tell you exactly what you have.
One pic of the rejector (removed) and another of the coin mech (looking down on it with rejector removed).

Thanks!  I'll get pictures posted as soon as I get home this afternoon.  You seem to be the resident expert on these, so I appreciate any help!

Here is the front of the rejector.  It works fine on a dime.

This is the vend mechanism on the machine.  I'm guessing I need to swap the screw on the vend horns to the front one.  It seems to be the nickel slot.  Am I on the right track here?  Thanks!

Hi Greg,
You have a dime rejector and a nickel/dime mech - the mech can be easily set (by turning the dog screws) to vend on one (1) nickel or one (1) dime or one of each [nickel and dime].
A straight dime rejector rejector (what you have) vends on dimes only [all nickels rejected].
A straight nickel rejector vends on a nickel [all dimes rejected].
If you had a nickel/dime rejector, you could easily set the mech to vend on 15c by letting both dogs rest on the coin cam or change to either denomination with fairly simple rejector adjustments.

Unfortunately, you cannot easily modify the straight dime rejector to accept nickels. You are stuck with a dime vend. To vend on a nickel, you have to get a nickel or a nickel/dime rejector.

Thanks for the info!  That's what I was afraid of...now I guess I'll be in search of a nickel rejector to get this back to original condition.  Do these come available all that often?   hopefull

Well, thanks to members of this board, my V-39 is now back to its original Nickel-vending self!  I'm glad I finally joined this community (instead of lurking around as a guest for all these years) so I can participate and be a part of this fine group.  I look forward to learning more, sharing more, and hopefully meeting many of you in the future at shows/swaps or in my travels.  Thanks again!

Greg,

Glad to hear SMC has helped you out!
That's what we're here for... Well, that and sharing stories of some nice finds, showing photos, and just plain discussing anything soda machine related...

My six cents,
