We all knew stories of kids who opened the lid of the slider machines, popped the top
off a bottle and drank the soda with a straw.
       Or the glass door machines... open the door, pop the cap of a bottle and hold a
cup under it.
       
       But this story about tying a fishing line on a quarter, dropping it in the
machine, getting a soda, then retrieving the quarter again!  NO WAY!

I did have this idea while throwing a rock across the lake one day, What a good pet this would make, then I said, NAAAAAAA! Who new?

Actually Glen, National Rejectors incorporated a anti-theft device called a shear spring (a.k.a. 25 cent coin path string cutter) into their nickel, dime, quarter rejectors. If you look at the back of most NDQ rejectors, you'll see it clamped under the head of the top nickel anvil bolt.

Glen I was one of those kids that would open the bottle door
and pop a top and have a cup handy drain off two or three coke
and on our way , The Down side do it to often and you are bound
to get caught,   Oh maybe by the rookie police officer pulling in 
and busting you

   But live and learn ,Lesson buy your own machine and have the key
 and some change     .

I once had this idea of little collectible stuffed animals... but who in their right mind would collect stuffed animals...

When we were young some kids would take the round piece of bottom foil back cardboard out of the minature Morton salt shakers and bend it up a little then place it into the coin slot of a 5 cent acorn candy machine and just keep on turning while filling their cups with candy.

When we were kids, somebody told my older brother you could do this to get free pop out of pop machines.  He, being a mental genius, decided to try it.  He spent time drilling a coin and tying fishing line to it. Then, when we went to town, he found a pop machine and tried to use it and found out the pop machine didn't accept 50 cent pieces! I don't know of any pop machine that's ever taken fifty cent pieces. I still laugh at him about it. :-)

Maybe it was a dime machine and he was trying to get 5 at a time. LOL

Wow, I lead a sheltered life, I never thought of any those tricks for a free soda, a dime attached to fishing line, yes, I' know of people who swore it worked, butI've never seen it in action.

I will confess there was a time when you could dial the operator from a pay phone, tell her the phone didn't return your dime, and she would do some mojo to remotely drop one.  Ah, the things you learned at a parochial school. Then Ma Bell got smart, and  offered to credit your home phone bill for the :lost dime"
