Hi

I bought an old 70's Cracker Jack machine and I am stripping the paint off. The sand work on the door went great down to the metal but the the back of the machine body seems to have been painted several times. My sand paper gets glops of paint on it when sanding. It seems as though the last paint job in that area may have been some kind of house paint just thrown on? Any idea what happining? There is also tons of high/low spots which I will have to fix. I was not going to sand blast this machine as I do all others but maybe that is the way to go?

Thanks for your input.

PS I have a more serious question about my compressor/DA so I will look for the correct place to list it.

Thanks, Duane

Your autopaint supply store can sell you a can of Aircraft Stripper. Spray it on, wait for it to blister the paint, then scrape it off with a putty knife or wire brush.
It's pretty messy and only seems to lift one layer of paint each application, so it's still a lot of work.

Thanks Glen

I have used Aircraft stripper before and yes it is quite messy but does work well one layer at a time.  '<img'> I will be picking some up this weekend and continue working on this machine. But I think if I use it on the back of the machine I might as well use it on all the sides? Then again I bought a new 60 lb. sand blaster that I am getting yansy to try out! Either way the paint will be coming off.

Thanks for your input.

Duane,

Just be very careful attempting to sandblast layers of paint off the cabinet & the door for that matter!

You may unknowingly warp the metal while trying to get the thick paint off by staying in obe area too long; this causes the metal to heat up and warp at times.

All this will do is create much more work; especially, if the cabinet is straight before blasting...

My six cents,
