I just purchased a 1940s era cigarette machine at an auction.  It is in reasonably good condition but needs cleaning and possible maintenance.  I'm not sure because I cannot get into it.  Does anyone have any suggestions short of calling a locksmith?

There is an older style lock on the bottom that appears similar to the locks that appear on the top of old bubble gum machines.  This may be accessible with a screwdriver?  However, the upper portion has (what I call) a vending lock.  The circular type lock as found on later soda machines.  The key that opens my 1977 Coke machine does not work.  If anyone has advice that could help me, I'd be most appreciative.  If needed, I could post pictures.

Thanks,

john

Most likely you'll have to drill out and replace... if it's a common cylinder style lock, you can replace for just a few bucks at a home store.
Just drill carefully and slow.

Yes a picture may help, What manufacture/model is it, not much info to go on here, kinda sounds like a National with a lower cabinet.

"Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.
