You guys have got me interested in the candy machines now.  My wife is sure to divorce me, V-DAY or otherwise!  Anyway, I saw this one that is local and although it isn't a stoner it looks interesting to me.  If I painted it a bright Stoner color it might "show" much better.  What do you think is a fair price for this if it is working?

That's a National... Early 60s- VERY VERY Heavy! but about as tall as a
81 and very thin - about a foot deep from the wall.
I had 3 of them - I the most I paid was $175 for one.
They are awesome looking painted red. If it's complete and
cheap pick it up.... But get help!

Thanks Eric.  When you say VERY heavy.  How heavy are we talking? 200 pounds?

The owner of these (picture below) says they are National cig machines from the 1940s.  Two questions: (1)Do these look like they are from the 40s?; and (2) Were these machines interchangeable between candy and cigs, or did they really make dedicated cig machines and dedicated candy machines?

EDIT:  From looking at pictures of other machines, I see that they did make dedicated candy and cig machines.  Could the cig machines still be used for candy, or are the slots too small?

They're 40s... They're cool look'n... Never seen the candy version that looks like that... you could always do candy cigarettes. Don't know if the areas are just the size of a pack or not...
The National I would say weighs around the same as a 81 maybe
a little lighter....
They were a bear to load (by myself) when I took them down to meet Joey...
Joey - what do you guess on the weight on these...

Get a shot of the inside, If they are like the stoners, then there is just a little platform for the product to sit on and that platform collapses when knob is pulled and item slides down into large dispenser area. so I would think it could be a mulivendor... ON another note about cigarette machines, I did see a very cool one where the words Cigarette and a graphic of a cigarette smoking was backlit but still etched into the mirror.. .very cool effect.. Just know the wife will NOT allow a cigarette machine in the house!!! still very cool... wish I had a photo of it.

I just went back and read the whole thread. I wonder if these could vend candy too?  The auction I posted says they have others too.  Boy I need more space.

Dan,  Yeah, I saw the one on EBAY.  I believe the seller on EBAY and the seller on Craigslist (where I got the pic above) are one on the same.  My wife really wouldn't want a cigarette machine in the house and I don't say I really blame her...but if it doesn't say "Cigarette" on it and it can vend candy, well that is a different issue.  The problem I foresee for vending candy though is that the compartments will be too small.  A candy bar is about 5 inches by an inch and a half and I can't see it fitting.  What do you guys think? (pics of another similar machine below)So many machines, so little time.

If it's not as deep as a stoner candy you could run into some problems with jamming a snickers bar in there I'd guess... Not sure, just my 3.5cents.

Still a cool looking machine, would look great with the chrome redone, paint, etc...

WHen will the madness end!... too many cool things out there and they aren't by ME!!!! '<img'>

The grass always seems greener on the other side.  I know many a time that I've had a fit of jealousy over some of the things I've seen you come across.

I have had a few of these. They are neat looking especially with the etched mirror.  I could not get them to vend candy someone smarter might figure it out.  They are extremely heavy close to 400 pounds not a one man loading job.  I know where one just like the first post is for sale for 50.00 but I just can not work up the courage to lift it into the truck.

The one in the first post is complete and the seller has offered it to me for $150 and he'll deliver it to me.  400 pounds?!  No wonder when I offered him $100 he said that he had to haul it and wouldn't take less.  Sounds like an event in next years Worlds Strongest Man.  Wow...I really need to think on this one as even moving it around to work on it will be a PITA.

I have one of these National Cig. machines also. They are pretty cool. Mines short the matchbook innards. Do you think that guy would sell me that part?

Sodaworks, I'll PM you with the guys e-mail address.  It looks like he has about 8 machines and he says he only wanted one to restore but had to buy them all (all or nothing deal).

Well why are you even contemplating this big monster
of a machine when he obviously wants to unload those
Stoners too.
Pay a few bucks more for a 180 but well worth it to you.

Moondawg, What Stoners are you talking about?  I was under the impression that all of these are Nationals.

There is a big differrence in value between the 9-select National cigarette machine and the ones that have more selections.
   My 2 cents.
