I sometimes wonder how difficult it would be to collect this stuff (soda, gas/oil, classic cars) if not in the US. We are basically surrounded by it everyday and grew up with it. Plus it is easy to get your hands on the stuff at flea markets and the like. Is the whole Americana thing big over there?

Dave, did you order a new bottle door or modify your original one?

Thanks everyone for your kind words.
Cormy - Jukes are reasonably easy to get hold of but with ebay the market seems to have fallen out of the market.
Soda machines are much rarer. We didn't have them ourselves back in the 1950's so all the coke machines will have either been imported by people like me or will have come off of Airbases.
We have our own antique collectibles and classic sports cars (E-type Jags, Triumphs etc) But nothing that interests me. I guess I'm in a time warp well and truely living a life in the film American Graffiti.
One day I'll get my stepside truck. Wouldn't mind a red london bus or telephnoe box too.

I have a freind who ships soda machines and gas pumps and the like to a guy in Switzerland. I'm told he will take any and all and can't get enough!

Everything looks so good.
Hope your family appreciates all your stuff.
My hubby could care less about mine, until someone wants to buy it then he tries to make a deal.

Dave, a few months back a guy here had a red pay phone booth just sitting out in the elements in front of his business. It looked like wood. Hubby always sped up when we went by so I couldnt get a good look at it. (probably thinking I buy it if it was for sale).
I havent noticed if it's still there. The next time I'm over his way I'll snap a few pics to share.

Hi Marsha
I know that lots did go overseas. Like the London Bus. There are repro wooden boxes out there too. A company not too far from me restores and sells on Ebay £2100 is about the going rate for a restored shell. Add about £500.00 for the telephone and bits.
Last year the Mayor of London did away with the old London Buses. They were being snapped up for a few thousand pounds. If I had space I would definately have had one of them. People have converted them into alsorts.
London Black Taxis are still fairly plentiful. Before the kids came along me and the wife had this wonderful idea of shipping one over to the US going acorss the country in it and then selling it before heading back home.
I take it you guys must get "Dr Who" on the TV. The Tardis. There was only a couple of original police boxes left. When I joined the Police you were given a key that opened all the boxes. There is still one at the Police College and there was one sitting in Picadilly Circus up until a few years ago when, one night a lorry pulled up a couple of blokes got out in overalls and spent the night dismantling it and taking it away. Never to be seen again. If you have the front you can get away with anything.
