Paint specks on original paint

Hi all,
I recently acquired a machine in beautiful original condition; however there are paint specks on the top. Not a lot, but more than I can count on my finger and toes. Is there any safe way to remove them without harming the original paint? I have tried to gently get them off with my fingernail, but only one or two would come off. Also, the chrome is pretty good but not great. Does it hurt the value to just have the chrome redone or is it best left alone?
As always, any and all input is appreciated,
Tom

Slack, your dealing with two different types of paint here. The original paint on your machine is made for metal with a great deal of hardner added to it.Very durable.
The specks are usually allways a result of painting the wall or ceiling with water-based paint.Very soft.
Try a paint thinner on a sample spot, I doubt you can hurt the original finish at all.
Re-chroming allways adds glitter to any machine,I can't imagine it to decrease value. Glen

Moondawg,
Well, the thinner didn't do a thing. The paint, I guess, has been on there for a while. But what did work is... I took some auto wax (Meguiar's) and with a little elbow grease shined it up real nice and buffed out all the paint specks as well. Thanks again for input. Tom
