[Rant]I am so dissapointed in the arcade in the hotel we are staying at. My kids were looking forward to some real arcade games, and so was I. They have probably 30 cabinets here of a variety of vintages. The first day we were here, more than half had not working signs. As the days go by, the signs started to dissappear. Today, we decided to play a few games, including Ms. Pacman and a few others... Ms. Pacman/ Galaga combo was .50/ play, and the screen wasn't even aligned properly. Another Ms. Pacman game was only .25, but ran in 4x the speed it should. It was like she was on speed... There was one pin and it didn't work... 2 other games took my quarters but didn't work. I brought my xbox, and we have more fun with that, and it doesn't cost anything.. I wish I brought my arcade joystick....[/Rant]

I feel your pain.  I hate it when I see GAMEROOM on a hotel map and go there only to find a fighting game, a non-working game and a pinball that needs to be taken out to the pasture!  When I was a kid I used to love to go the the hotel gamerooms (late 70's/early 80's).  Now they suck with a capital S! and there use to be a wire art looking Red Baron game I loved and then, to me, one
of the Best (Best being Galaga '<img'> )was the Star Wars game... again wire framed art
attacking the death star! Awesome!

one good thing did come out of it though-- it helps me justify getting a console or 3 '<img'>

or building your own BAD WORD machine.  Boy, I used to love going to the arcade and dropping a ton of quarters.  Some of my favorites were Karate Champ, Mat Mania, Punch Out, Contra and RBI Baseball.  Now I have them all on my MAME cabinet.  Spend your vacation building one with your kids, or go the easier route and buy an empty cabinet for $50 or so, an X-cade joystick/button setup for around $100 and put an old computer/monitor inside and away you go.

Hey you have to be very careful about mentioning that swear word around here.
There are some purists amongst the members here. I made the same mistake a while back.
Never again..

Personally... I think that Mame is a very true representation of what I used to play as a kid.(But keep that to yourself and don't let the others know)

I actually have that in mind... I already have the dual stick x-arcade, a 20"pc monitor and the pc for it... just haven't gotten to the cabinet yet. I also have mame as well as just about every console emulator on my xbox as well as a pc... I am still working on the rom collection, but I may just deal with a mame burner and just get the whole collection instead of trying to download each one...  I also would not use the x-arcade stick in the mame cabinet, but I would build my own.. If I had known before I got the control how easy it was to build, I would have done that... I got an excellent book called Project Arcade-- It is  either done by or in conjunction with the Build your own arcade website.... Excellent source of info..

I do want to have a collection of originals as well... there is something to say for the original cabinets that is just more than just a game....
