Ice build up

Hi To All
I have two Ideal 55 Sliders I use constantly in my basement. Each works well, gets cold and primarily runs great. Because of this I have not wanted to restore them untill I have finished restoring my other machines that do not work.
In each of these machines I get an ice build-up in the tank bed where the pop bottles are located on a regular basis. I usually need to defrost the machine once or so a month. Is this common for these sliders? I am not to worried about this and I do not mind defrosting them. I was just hoping for so back ground information on this ice build-up situation.
Thanks for your time.

Duane,
I haven't run into this before, but hopefully Eric can chime in here and shed a little light as to some possibilities and solutions...

Duane, you have a somewhat common problem.
First let me say, I used to have my problems with the front and rear walls of the slider icing up, but that is another chapter of the 55's and 35's.
Ice on the walls is from the cooling coils, but ice on the floor started as water, and dripped to the floor. There is a drain on the floor for this water to exit into a bucket. Is the drain clear? Still water won't freeze untill the temp. is down to 32 degrees or less. Is your thermostat setting too cold?
Also,is there any "sweating" around either of your doors, where cold air is meeting warm air? This will cause excess condensation inside the box. A bent lid or rotten side gaset is usually the culprit.
And,you should never have to defrost your machines.
Let us know what you find!!!!!!! Glen

Hi Glen
Thanks for the info.
Yes, the side door, lid, and gasket are in good shape on both machines. I have the temp. control set at half way (#5) on both machines also. Both of these machines are the Model 55-A type.
The icing on both machines are on the frount and rear walls of the tank bed. Never on the bottom of the machines. Drains work well.
As I said earlier both machines need defrosting about every other month. If I let them go for say 3 months then the ice will interfere with bottle movement. So I check it all the time.
Does this information give you any clues to the problem?
Thanks again for your input.

Duane, try turning the thermostat to #1 or # 2. You have two machines that have full freon charge, no leakage, don't work them so hard! Glen

I will turn them down and let you know in two months or less how it went.
