A friend of mine has a VF 63 that sometimes when the compressor kicks in it will blow a breaker. Any ideas as to what would cause this?

Sounds like too many appliances on that breaker. Say the microwave is running and the 63 kicks in, that may cause overload. Ideally the 63 should be plugged into the wall and not on an extension cord. That's a start, some of the better electrical folks can help more.

It is plugged straight into the wall, and it isn't an overloaded circuit. Bad compressor?
I should also say that it worked fine for a long time in the exact place on the same circuit.

Check the relay and wiring to see if any of it is loose, burnt or anything out of the ordinary. Compressor could be pulling high amps. Be sure nothing else is plugged in another outlet on the same circuit. My refrigerator and air compressor is on different outlets but the same circuit and it trips sometimes when they come on together. Never took time to move either.

Your circuit breaker may also be in need of replacing, could be weak. You should be able to replace it for around 10-12 bucks.
