Last week, I picked up an embossed 7Up machine, glass door slant shelf with large coin door...Another 7Up VMC 81 in Northern California? Not quite (I wish!)...but a red-headed step child of the machine Glen picked up..in fact, I was loading this up probably as Glen was driving by my neck of the woods (albeit on I-5).
Anyway, I have enough parts to eventually keep this sucker more or less complete and to finish off the round top Vendo 56 that I picked up earlier this summer! The mechanical mech will go into the coke machine and I will convert the 7up into a temporary electric unit since I have all the materials. Some pics are below.

Joey got that one from me. He parted it out and now I am getting back the shell to make complete again. That is why I have been hunting a parts square top 56. I think I am going to make it an electric vend though. The parts are so much cheeper. I have a really nice spare large door coin mech but I want to save it for something else.

Sorry guys, yes..mine is a VMC 56. I already started Frankensteining it so I can put the good stuff on the RT Vendo 56. The one thing about the RC parts on eBay is that the large coin door does not look like it has an opening for a mechanical mech? Were some transitional machines made with just electric large coin doors? Never seen that.Mine currently has a backing plate for electric operation.
Josh, I might have an extra backing plate if you need it to make yours electric...Sean

Sean, the 7up logo on Wayne's find is 8 1/2" tall by 7 1/4" wide. If yours used the same stamping, I can see how bootleg 81's could be produced by cutting and welding. Got a tape?

Glen,
I just measured the 7up embossing. It is exactly the dimensions mentioned above so maybe some have used these machines to create "fake" 7up 81s. Are there other 7up machines that also have this size embossing? I once saw a 7up Ideal 55 but do not recall what size the embossed logo was.
By the way, this is the second VMC transitional 56 7up I have owned, both coming out of the San Francisco Bay Area...wonder if 7up Bottling of Oakland once ordered a bunch of these...I know the embossed VMC 33 7up seemed to be only "commissioned" by 7up Bottling of Los Angeles..sort of regret trading that one away too...oh well.
I plan to keep this square top 56 complete but who knows what would happen if I came across a generic 81 and a 12 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon...:O
