O.K. One more question for today (maybe-ha-ha).

I am restoring my Ideal 85 into a counter top style unit. Any reccommendations where I can buy the Formica, Boomerang type vinyle for this project?

Thanks! '<img'>

any Formica brand dealer has the classic boomerang laminate avaliable in their catalogs, Lowes, Home Depot, Carter Lumber, etc. (it is a laminate not a vinyl, applied with contact cement usally onto an MDF board base) look in the yellow pages under "countertops" or "kitchen & bath remodeling"
(or something along those lines)

Hey, this is great. I was under the impression that it had to be special ordered and was very hard to find. I am at Home Depot almost everyday so I will check with them.

Thanks a lot!!!!

Bad News on the Formica Boomerang Countertop Material.

E-mail from the Formica Corporation-
The boomerang patterns have been discontinued since 1997. There are no suggested substitutes for the boomerang pattern in our current line.

Also Home Depot, Lowes etc. do not have any of this Laminate in stock nor can they get any.

BUT-

barsandbooths.com does have and carry the boomerang style laminate in stock. But it is very expensive. Here is thier pricing.

See our laminate and metal banding pricing below.  Shipping of these items to a residential address will run you around $156.  We have to ship them Roadway because of the length of the banding.  We can ship it cheaper via UPS if you can take the metal banding cut to fit their size requirements (104” is the longest banding strip we can ship UPS).  I will be glad to get a UPS shipping quote if cutting them here before shipping accomodates your project.  If you have further questions or would like to place an order, feel free to call me at 1-800-507-7632.
Thanks,
Becky

Duane,

How about using a marble effect to simulate an old marble counter top from an old soda fountain.  I used a green-veined marble laminate and got good results...  And the cost wasn't nearly that much!

Have you contacted any other manufacturers such as Wilson Art...?

My six cents,

Thanks Jim

Yes I did check out Wilson Art. They have some nice patterns and it's looking as though that may well be the way to go. I do not have any price's on their material yet cause I am still looking for the Boomerang.

Speaking of Boomerange.

I did come arcoss pastense.com who sells the boomerang table tops and sent them a e-mail asking if they sell just the boomerang material. I am posting this so others may benefit from this research.

Here is their reply:

hi, duane—our factory had it produced (not by formica) & it’s proprietary
to them for table tops.  we’ll sell it with an accompanying table top order,
but because there’s not enough money in selling raw materials, we can’t,
otherwise (that’s why some people are charging those absurd prices & trying
to sell it in sheets anyway.)  if you buy it from us with a table top, it’s
$245. for a 4x10 sheet.  hope this helps.  thanks!

Well this is a better price than the other one but as you can see you must buy one of their tables in order to purchase the boomerang material.

So I will keep looking for awhile.
