When I was putting my Cav 55D back together, I noticed something strange with the evaporator and the way it mounts into the liner. This would have to be the only part of the machine that I didn't photo-document prior to tear-down.

When I re-mounted the evaporator in the freshly put together machine, I notice that there was about a 1 1/2" gap between the bottom of the evaporator mounting plate (pic#1) and the bottom lip of the liner (pic#2) As I look at it from the inside and back, it only goes one way. With this gap open, it leaves the refrigeration compartment compromised. You can actually see the insulation sticking through.

I just don't remember it being this way and it's causing me a lot of headaches.

So my question goes out to all of you Cavalier 55D owners, how does yours look? Do you have this gap or is mine mounted incorrectly? Pictures would help greatly! Thanks.

There is a small L bracket that fills the space. I looked but I don't have any pics. it is a really small L bracket that is only about 1/4 inch on eather side if I remember correctly. I know the 55 I sold you had it on there. I remember having a hard time getting it to fit correctly.

Hmmm....There's a small "L" bracket that mounts on the top portion using two #8 screws. I didn't see a place that would facilitate another bracket on the bottom portion. Boy, this is confusing. I'll keep looking though, thanks Josh.

OOPS I think you are right. I might be thinking about the top bracket. Its been a while. There are a few people here who have 55s. All you have to do is take the back cover off to see what is in that spot. Brian if you figure it out let me know. This is really bothering me. I always take pics of everything but I guess this one slipped.

No prob Josh! It bugs the crap outta me too. I know there are a few others. I think Leonard (Ltransam) owns one. I'm also curious, again, about the proper side spacers. apparently the flat kind witht the cutout in it isn't the only one. There's supposedly a formed side spacer that would be used for 8 oz and 10 oz bottles.

If anybody knows/has the proper side spacers for the Cavalier 55 series of soda pop machines, I would love to see some pictures and dimensions. Quite possibly to be used for remanufacture.

Thanks Leonard! Yeah, I guess it was a subtle hint... '<img'>  I appreciate the help. The photo's you took help out quite a bit. The gap at the bottom looks the same as mine. The true test would be to take the back rectangular cover off and see if it truly is an open gap that vents the liner's cool air into the machine's chassis. I'm not hinting at you to do this, if you did that would be cool but if not, it's cool also.

Not sure why Cavalier would do this except maybe to alleviate condensation build-up, or maybe I'm just missing a peice!!

This is just another reason why I love this place, freindly people that are willing to lend a hand when it's needed, truly awesome! ':drinkers:'

As you see in the picture mine also has the gap .I went back out and looked again .I CAN see some of the Insulation .But my gap is only a 1/4 to 1/2 in .Maybe it's to allow condensation to run down (As the edge is angled ) in to the bottom ?? Here it also pictures of the Only spacers for the sides .Note there is 2 diffirent thickness Total 2 each side on one bottle cute. The back is adjustble in depth .

Thanks a bunch Leonard. It looks to me like the spacer on the right is the thicker one. How thick is it? I have 3 or 4 of the thinner ones pictured on the left. Looks like I'll have to make some of my own.

At one time Steve Ebner was going to have some made but he lent his side spacers out and never got them back! I might give Steve one of mine to use as a template...

No problem !! Now i went back out to the garage an removed the back see pic .There is a small gap .But I did have to remove 2 pices of insulation the size of the cover.I was a little wrong '<img'> on the amount of spacers there are a total of 4 thin ones 2 each side & 2 thicker ones 1 each side thats in only 1 cute .The thicker one is .85 thousand/s thick at the top 1/2 and .175 thousands at the lower half .

Wee stairs are killing me ..
