I just purchased a Westinghouse wc-102md (Identified thanks to that great photo library!) at a local automotive swap meet. It appears to work but is low on freon, I am not really concerned about the refrigeration as much as the vending mechanicals. The selector seems to work as does all of the vending apparatus. It looks like I could just clean and adjust everything and at least have it functioning. Is there a way to obtain a manual for this machine and does the machine have any real value (higher quality restoration) or is it just a cool item for my garage? I also noticed per the description that it was set up to vend 6 oz. bottles, will it vend 12 oz (read cold beers) as well?

I paid 125.00 It is not in the best of shape but definitely restorable (at least by automotive standards). It has quite a few dents, scratches and stains from sodas. I got the coils cleaned up a little today and am checking out the refrigeration, it cools but I am not sure what I will find in the morning yet. I also fixed the selector mechanism, it was bent on the first selection and out of adjustment. The papers that note the selections (Sprite etc.) were written on with a pen but after pulling them out I discovered the originals on the back. I have Dr. Pepper, Orange, Grape and Sprite in addition to two king size Cokes. Too cool.........
New questions-
Is there a light in the top portion?
How do you open it up and change the bulbs if so?
I am going to check out the refrigeration aspects again in the morning and have a friend come over and give me a hand if it is not working correctly, I work in the restaurant industry and it looks as if a pizza / sandwich make table cooling stuff would bolt right in if mine is not working well enough. I then plan to pull out the vending mechanisms and soda rack and repair and clean it on the workbench. Would this be the right way to go about it or will I have a mess on my hands that is hard to get back together?

The dispensing unit and the refrigeration system are each built to be removed completely from the machine for service or replacement.

Cool, I got the refrigeraton working well this morning. The fan that distributes the cold air to the upper portion of the box is broken. Looks like I can get it up and working pretty easily. I have been reading some of the discussion stuff on restoration and am really excited about getting it working. This is a great site!!! Thanks to everyone for all of their help and sharing of information. I have a tendency to go crazy on things like this once I am comfortable with the mechanicals so you might find me hanging around a bit more and finding more machines. I will try to get some pictures up tonight.

Please stick around. Trust me you will get more machines. I bought my first machine less than three years ago and now I have had 58 machines to date. This is a great hobby and the best thing is you will never loose money on it. What other hooby do you know that you can have a great time with and make a little cash on the side to buy more machines.
