Well thanks everybody.  Garry has taken every idea set forth and has concluded this cooler should really be brought back to life as original as possible. Sort of as respect to the Icy-o company, and our future generations. Terry's friend Tom will be here this afternoon to discuss airbrushing the wood grain.
Good eye Eric, yes can barely make out the "refresh yourself" script on the side.  Anyone know where to find this script as a decal ?   The Coca Cola letters are gold with a thin red border. Drink and in bottles are gold with black border. Across the front above the window says "Help yourself please pay clerk"

Those last two were just a joke.... Just wanted to see if there were any Pepsi
or OC  lovers out there....
Anyway there's a Coke sign out there with the refresh yourself.... If someone
can get me a clean scan of that I can build it for you and send it to a printer to make a decal
same with any other text....
Heck my 7up flange, if anyone has seen that, I scan and redrew every little dot
on that as on all our other signs..... so I'm sure I can rebuild any text....
Just let me know.

Eric

Now that I think about it.... you should talk with Antique Vending.... They use a mask to silk screen all their text and logos on... It would be more like the original .....

It's like taking the vinyl letters that have been cut out and using the left overs (reverse part) to place on the cooler and painting the logo on...... He told me it was a vinyl mask they use....
Never have to worry about the decal  going bad.....
They are nice to talk with and once you tell them what you have surely they would want to help......

Anyway... again those last two images... just kidding...
I'm a “No decal, no pinstripe, no two toning a RC or
Pespi 81, no paint like a mirror kind of guy”. '<img'>

Of course if you already have a RC 81 all original
then yeah.... paint the other two tone.....

I'm not a fan of the wood look, (on the squaretops)
but for an item that is rare, taking it back to it's original look
would be the way to go. '<img'>

Any updates on the restoration?... How does the guy's work (who paints
the wood grain) look?
Have you figured out a cap catcher design and base yet?
