I recently purchased a HVLP sprayer for spraying lacquer on furniture. Has anyone used this for spraying automotive finishes onto coke machines?

This is the only way to spray paint, especially automotive paints.  In some areas, these are the only approved types of sprayers allowed in addition to sray booths.

I would check with people at the paint distributor or sprayer manufaturer to make sure you have the right tip size for the particular paint to be used...

Jim- thanks for the info. When I was talking to a salesman for Sherwin Williams, he asked me if my HVLP sprayer produced warm air- it does so no moisture enters the paint. He said I can't use this HVLP because it will prematurely harden the paint. Not sure if all brands of paint would have this problem... Any thoughts??? What brand of paints have you used and recommend?

I'm not an expert in this area, but I have to disagree with the statement above. I know HVLP spray guns are used everyday to spray automotive paints with excellent results!

If you haven't painted before, I would spend some time practicing before attempting your first machine. My recommendation for paint is PPG products.

is this HVLP sprayer the kind with it's own turbine unit, or a gun type that uses shop air? (I'm using the gun type)

I know nothing about the turbine units!
I've only used the regular HVLP spray guns that utilize compressor air.
