Problems with my v39

Hello Chaps

I'm looking for a little assistance with my Vendo 39. Up until a few months ago it had stood idle for a few years. I fired it up and it has worked perfectly since.

Today I noticed that the fan in the top compartment was spinning irratically. On occasion it was stopping and re-starting. This has never happened before. However, I have suffered from the fan stopping completely in the past and with a gentle prod it would start again and carry on as if nothing had happened.

Also the bottle at the bottom with the tube in it that collects water is bone dry. In the past I have had to empty it regularily.

Any ideas please??? Feel free to treat me as a complete idiot I will not be offended.

It's time to change the fanmotor.  Since you are so far away, you may buy a few more months or years if you remove it and try a few drops of oil down the shaft.
       The water jar is empty because it evaporated. When you were using the machine, and the fan stopped, the lack of moving air allowed the cooling coils to become frosted and then iced.  That ice melted and water filled the jar.

What type of motor do you have?  Can you give me the specs?  Company, model #, rpm, direction of rotation (CW or CCW).  A picture would also help.  I've got a few fan motors in my shop in good repair.  I can send you one for the cost of shipping to "Jolly ol' England".

I have had a look at the fan unit tonight. Plse excuse my ignorance but having removed the unit from the cabinet I am unable to find the motor that runs it.

The only information I can find on the whole compressor unit is a vendo chassis plate with what looks like either V14 or VT4 stamped on it in the model no. box.

The fan definately rund clockwise. I have taken some photos but have had diffuclty getting them on the site will try later on my neighbours PC.

If you could point me in the right direction I'll try and locate the fan motor.

I did say treat me like an idiot.

You're not an idiot and, honestly, I'm not greatly familiar with the different Vendo 39 modifications.  I know the earliest ones made did not have an evaporator in the bottle compartment.  The later models had a drum-like evaporator added with a fan located towards the bottom of the assembly.  If you have this setup, you'll need to unbolt and turn the evap so you can get to the bottom of the assembly to remove the fan.  You'll need to be careful to not kink the refridgerant lines but it shouldn't be difficult.  

If anyone else in the group has done this, please chime in!!

Dave, I'll post pictures of the evap assembly I have.  Let me know if it matches yours.

Here's the evap as seen from the top.  The upper shroud piece (just a cylindrical extention on the top) is removed for clear view of the fan.

Here's a shot from the bottom side.  The fan is held in place by three screws (one is visible in this shot.)  This fan runs great.  If this matches your setup, I'll clean up the fan and it's yours.  let me know.

I'll get this one pulled and cleaned up for you.  I'll also splice in some extra cable to ensure you have enough to reach the junction box on the compressor base.  This motor's power lead was cut short at one time.  Feel free to PM a mailing address to me or send it here:
