I have been trying to revive my tecumseh 1/4hp compressor on a glasco gbv50 but I feel it is a lost cause.  I would like to replace the tecumseh compressor with another compressor.  If anybody has an old tecumseh 1/4hp compressor that they would like to sell, let me know.  If not I would like to use a newer compressor.

What I need to know is how to re-build the deck.  I would like to add a drier to the deck so I have service valves on low side and high side.  I would like to keep the system r12 but I could also change over to r134.  Can somebody help me with how to do this?
Thanks,
Buck

While I have tried to assist you in the now apparently abandoned prior discussion/chat in diagnosing your Glasco slider's compressor issues I personally can't take the time to attempt to walk a newbee step by step through a compressor replacement process that requires more than a basic desire to "do it myself" it requires a sound understanding of refrigeration practices & applied processes such as brazing, wiring, & recharging the system safely with a high pressure refrigerant gas, there are risks involved & liabilities to consider. you'd need a refrigeration gauge set, a vacuum pump, a refrigerant charging scale, torch/brazing equipment, etc. by the time you get all of this together for a one-shot machine repair, you'll have spent more than I if you purchased a rebuilt compressor deck or have yours repaired or rebuilt by someone in the business of doing so. this is a fun hobby ( for me at least) but it isn't what I'd call cheap to do... I'm sure there's a least a few folks out there with a used original compressor deck that would "plug n play" onto your glasco, either a Glasco or an Ideal slider deck or even a deck out of a small LaCrosse upright machine will fit nicely. but remember you're taking a significant chance buying a 60+ year old system...as an example, here's a picture of a rebuilt (restored actually) compressor deck I did for a customer, it cost him $675.00 + shipping start to finish, it will reconnect directly back onto his machine & he's going to recharge it himself.

Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes.
Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon!

My current compressor is toast.  Sorry but that is how it is.  So my options are:

Buy a new unit.  I do have an ideal 55 with a r134 deck but I would rather use r12.
Rebuild the current deck.  I have the r12, I have gauges, I have new wiring.  I just need some insight on how to add a drier to the system.  Is the tube coming out of the condensor steel?  If not then then the drier I bought from funtronics will work.  If it is steel than how do I add a drier?

Here is the thing, I can get a working ideal 55 for 100 bucks.  I would like to transplant that deck into a much better body.  I would also like to add a drier to the system.  I really don't want to do the brazing of the system.  I will have somebody else do that.

Don't get angry, I tried to do what you suggested.  The compressor is toast. Can somebody lead me to how to add a drier to the deck?

I have redone 7 sliders in the past.  I haven't done much on the refrigeration side of things.  I have recharged 2 sliders this summer.  One worked well but the other turned the compressor into toast.  I had 2 different refrigeration guys work on that slider.  Now I have to take over and get it working.  That is why I wanted to get some answers.
