Yes, between a 4 to a 6 watt motor is Ok, most modern machines use up to a 9-watt for the condenser & a 6 watt for the evaporator fan, but the lighter the wattage the quieter the motor ( I call the vibrational noise "Thrumming" if you put a larger wattage motor on a smaller fan blade) a 4-6 watt will be able to rotate a 6" or 7" fan blade, a tri-blade ( OEM style) moves more air than a 5-segment modern fan but needs a larger motor to spin it & more clearance between it & the condenser... if you go with a too-small motor vs a larger (say 10") fan blade with a 2-4 watt motor, the motor may not spin up to full speed & it will act like it's stalling out & quickly overheat.    So try not to go large than a 8" fan with a 6 watt motor, I hope this helps you out.

Thank you so much for the tip.  I will look for a motor and the 3 bladed fan.  Hopefully I can buy or make a fan shroud to help with the flow.

I have been working on getting the machine all up and running and wanted to ask about the evaporator fan airflow direction.   The set up that came in it blows air down through the round horizontal evaporator with the cold air directed at the bottom of the machine.   I thought it was supposed to draw air up through the evaporator and blow it up to the top of the machine.   Do you all think it has the incorrect motor rotation?

It should pull air through the evaporator first, then up the back & over the bottles/cans... Basically bottom to top.
 So In your case, yes it's backwards ( wrong rotation) if you are still using the original fan-blade with a reversed rotation motor, it will have poor air circulation, because the reversed blade spin will just "bat" the air around & not really circulate it from the bottom to the top

Thanks JohnieG.  That is what I suspected.   And I appreciate your guidance. I wonder how long it was used with the motor/fan spinning the wrong direction?  The good news is that is still seems to cool really well.

Putting in the new fan that directs airflow in the right direction made for a huge improvement.  I did have to work with the new fan blade quite a bit because it was pretty far out of balance.  I worked on trimming the blade pitch to make sure all of the blades were positioned the same.   However it still shook like crazy where the old fan blade was smooth.  I put a clip on one blade at a time until it started to run smooth. Then once I found the blade that needed weight I drilled a small hole in it about mid point and put in a very small screw.  At first it still had a small wobble so I kept filing away at the screw end until it finally ran nice and smooth.   

The new blade made the Temps way more even in such a tall machine.   I am still working on getting the thermostat set right.  Currently it shuts off around 27 degrees and turns on at 35 with the temp sensor about 12 inches above the bottom of the machine.  I put several water bottles in it at different heights and the bottom ones seem to average around 33 to 34.  And the tops are around 35 to 36.  So I think that's getting close to where I want it.   

It's nice to have it up and working.   Now I need to go get some bottles to try it out for real!
