Why did people add water fountain to the side of machine . Here is a square c96 and all it was is tubing and ruin the side of machines. Giving it to my grandson for his first machine but hate the holes in the side .

My apologies if bringing up a post that is old is bad form.   Back in the day 50's, 60's and early 70's my Dad worked for a Coke bottler in West Texas.  He would add a water fountain to machines at the owner's request.  Often a service station owner or other business man would ask for a water fountain to be added.  Dad would build a tank instead of the coils of copper.  The tank would recover faster than the coils.

If the idea was to sell cokes a water fountain would have the opposite effect.  Free water verses $.10 coke?   Again it was what the owner wanted.
