Coca Cola Button Codes

Is anyone schooled as to the meaning of the codes of Coca Cola buttons. (AM-52) (AM-17X) Tried to research but I cant fid any information how these codes work.

AM-52 is for "Allen Morrison" the sign company out of Lynchburg VA.. the 52 is for 1952... later on they must have changed the codes as I don't know what the 17X would be.
