Thank you for your reply's, I am currently in negotiations with the wife regarding why I should be allowed to get an old vending machine!  I am particular (and unfortunately not alone) to the stlye of the vendo 39 or vendo 81 (and the vendo 81 counterpart the Cavalier CS-72).  Is there another brand of vending machine that is similiar to vendo 39?

Hi Shawn,
the Cavalier 51 is similar to the Vendo 39. It is a great looking machine too. '<img'>

The Vendo 83 is somewhat similar in that it has a rotating drum and metal door flap, but it is not as attractive and less sought after. But one thing I do like about the 83 is that its drum is honeycombed. '<img'>

Congrads!
Assuming the machine is complete, working and in good condition; you purchased it at very fair price!

Yes I want to get it restored, I'm assuming I will need to get it repainted at the very least.  I tried posting two other pictures (showing inside and front/back) that were given to me by the seller, but the files were too large.  Per the seller, the machine is in good working (useable) condition and has no rust, dents or large holes, etc.  When I get the machine shipped to me in Los Angeles, I will take digital pics and try and post.

Regarding my newly acquired vendo 39, the seller tells me that it is a Model #E39D and that it cools, coin mechanism works, and it vends, but has not been used for a "long time so everything is probably stiff and needs to be oiled".  The seller also believes that the machine vends "6oz bottles".  Does model #E39D mean anything to anyone, and is seller probably wrong about the 6oz bottles....

Shawn,
Not sure about the e39D model #, there were 3 different V39 styles produced. The first style was solid red , embossed "Ice Cold" across the bottom. The second model introduced the two-tone paint, and Vendo was added to the lower right door. The 3rd style dropped Ice Cold and Vendo from the front door, but kept the 2 tone red/white paint scheme.
Vendo released a factory option with model "C" with a deeper drum that allowed 12 oz bottles to be vended.
You should be able to look at the bottle drum and tell if you have a 6oz or 12 oz bottle drum, the 6 oz drum consists of 2 platters; the 12 oz drum will have a 3rd platter (I'm sure there is a better word for the circle that makes up the drum than platter...)

If the 8 oz Cokes (same size of the 50's 6 ounce Coke bottles ) aren't available in your area, Cornhusker Sign & Mfg makes a 12 0z bottle drum for the 39, contact info is in the Parts Suppliers link

I'll stop rambling now... '<img'>

Not rambling at all kilroy-
Your informtion helps a lot, I saw that retro soda sells 8 oz bottles, dont have to worry about finding 6 oz bottles!!  Good to hear that I can get a 12 oz drum as finding 12 oz bottles will give me most flexibility in filling machine.

Not sure if I need to "graduate" into a different discussion area about my "new" machine...I noticed a discussion about vendo 39 under pre-60's, discussing a yellow indexing on the drum, per pictures sent to me by seller, my vendo 39 has the same yellow indexing...I will try and upload those pictures in the smc gallery.
