Used to seeing machines at gas stations but normally next to the building under the roof cover.

This poor 81 is stuck out in the  inhospitable elements..stuck me as odd. oh

There's something 'off' about that picture, I wonder if its a Photoshop job?

I'm going to agree too.....  The machine looks way too much in focus over the pumps or the car....

As well, I'm not a decal expert... but did they place ICE COLD decals on the bottom of new 81's back in the day?

Reminds me of the "wheel kit" machines I have come across.  Easy to move an upright in and out of a garage/building with one of those installed.

Darn good eye's!! Yep look at the back edge. My guess cut and paste, great job and why not sure. That is a 52 Ford to the right a  54 Ford in the background a 52ish GM foreground.

Or maybe just someone's recreation on their property. I've seen some of those out in the country. They'll shell out old machines, pumps, and cars just for display and then wheel off when weather is bad.

I'm still not convinced that it's a photoshop. The back edge of the 81 has the dimples on the back creating the effect. It's a tough one to call. Could have been a brand new station in 1956. The decals are a little suspicious I will admit.

Agree real tough call. Could be they just received the 81 and took the picture focused on it. The key is the water slide decals. I know nothing of those. Paging Eric :-).

I've never seen a original machine with the Ice Cold decal on the bottom, plus I understand the picture is in black and white, the red on the coke machine is very dark meaning it is from a color picture turned into a black and white. Either way, cool picture.

Man if it's photoshopped they did a good job... the right angle and proportioned right size compared to the pumps.. I've seen old machines with the
hand and coke bottle decal .. my 81 had one but never seen the ICE COLD decal... But can't say they didn't exist for sure....
I agree the red part of the machines seems dark in the picture and awful shiny..... it's too low res when I took it into photoshop  but something seems to be all over
the coin door...  Funny how we're all trying to figure it out... Cool picture wish I had the car...
