I have a  Vendo H63A. The sign light is too bright. Has anyone installed an alternate light, like an led, behind the sign. Can the bulb be changed, to one with less wattage? Also I would like to put some kind of light in the door so you can see the bottles in the dark. Any thoughts?

What type of bulb did you install?  The make different types like daylight, cool white, etc.

Good point. You know, I'm not sure of the color.  Is it an 18 watt bulb? What do you think?

Well.. there are different types daylight, natural, cool white.  Installed all have a different color to them.  I would suggest checking your packaging or receipt or go back to the store and by another one to compare the different types.

As far as a light for the bottle door many just use a cheap LED which you can cut to fit.

I've had the machine since around 1976 and never changed the bulb. I'm familiar with color but I don't think a color change will reduce the brightness enough. I was thinking about installing a led along with the florescent on a separate switch. Anyone else done this?

No, I don't.  You can measure pin to pin on the current bulb that is installed.  My guess would be 17 inches .  Most of these machines will have a square type ballast it a small white square or which allows a small range for bulbs with the proper watts.  I buy replacement ballast at Home Depot for $4.99

The starter will probably be a FS-2
