Stopped by some local garage sales today... found this little guy stashed away in the back of the garage.. asked if it was for sale..
lady said it's my sons but he wants way too much for it...

I ask how much... she says $50.00 !!!..

Um.. ok  oops

loaded it up and home...

Starting to buy up these small guys, as they will be the future machines in my opinion... I've had people request them restored for $$$ so why not.

There was a small font 72 at a garage sale here last week, she wanted $2k for it though. I made my offer but no word yet.

I started setting the square tops back in my bone yard. I was crushing them all once they were stripped, now I just let them sit.

That's a great buy John. Congrats!  I'd buy them all day long at that price!

Personally, and I may be in the minority, but I don't see these square tops ever attaining the collect-ability of the round tops. I realize we've all flipped and sold these square tops for good money, and many have been restored for big money, but I just don't think they will ever be in big demand like the round top 81's, 56's, 110's, etc are. Just my 2 cents.

I agree.....

I think these might slightly go up in value simply because of supply / demand.... but I don't think they will command big money one day as they just don't have the sexy appeal of the RT embossed machines.
These Square Top machines provide people who are not crazy about machines, an opportunity to have a beer / pop machine in the  mancave , and maybe even detail it as their fav. sports team, beer brand, Harley Davidson etc.....

I think money can be made by restorers with these, because of work involved etc.... but I cant see a great return on investment if people started to stockpile these up..... unless they buy them from old ladies at garage sales for 50 bucks I guess  laugh

I agree that the square tops may not achieve Vendo 81 status, but maybe in a few years they will be at today's Cav 72 price (seems like 72s were cheaper a year ago).  I know around here Cav 64 and Vendo 63s are getting harder to find at bargain prices.  My thought is if I can find them cheap I'll buy them, probably won't lose money, certainly won't make money... but I retire next week and I figure and I need a hobby! biggrin
