Probably a question that has been asked, didn't see a thread in search results...

Are the compressors from a vendo 81 the same exactly as a compressor from a Vmc 81?

Also did 110's use the same compressor as the 81's?

Thanks

I have used them interchangeably.  There are a few variations most notable has been the size of the receiving tank for the freon.  I have seen 1/4, 1/2, and 1/5 hp compressors!

did one company use  a particular variation exclusively or do we find all types in both vendo and VMC at random?

Every 81 that I've worked on had a 1/4 horse unit in it. I believe Tecumseh was the maker of the compressor. My RC 81 has a unit with a tag that reads the vendo company. Either vendo supplied the unit for VMC or it was switched out sometime in its service life. The only machine I've worked on with a 1/5th HP unit was a Cavalier 64.

Thanks for the info guys, so is it safe to assume that if I swapped out the working original compressor from a vendo110 and put it in a Vmc pepsi 81 it wouldn't raise eyebrows?

If its a early 110 it will have a square evap. The later 110s used the same style Evaps. As the 81. The only difference is the way the evap lines are bent.

Guys, Also remember... the compressor in your unit, MAY not be the original... when these where in service, and stopped working, they would just swap out to keep it running... the service guys where not concerned if it was the "CORRECT' one that came with it from factory,, just that it kept Sodas cold and they could sell more product.

I've seen many different ones in 81's... one vs the other does not affect value IMO

The ID tag on the machine usually has the compressor specs on it also.
