The b had a small coin door and the d the large coin door, depends on the machines in question but most times the d is worth more

How many variations (letters) on the 81? Do they all deal w/the coin door? Just curious for an explanation on differences. Oh, while I'm at it, are they variations for the Coke machine only or the other brands of 81? Hoping you'll educate us all!! LOL

Vendo 81 is Coke only. A, B and D. A and B both have the small coin door, the D has the larger. B and D both came white top over red, share same embossed letters. The A came all red with centered to machine smaller embossed letters. You can't loose with any of the 3 but the A is far less desirable then the B and D.

All other 81's Pepsi, RC, 7up, Dr. Pepper, and generic are all VMC and have the larger coin door like the Coke 81 D.

Don't forget the Vendo 81 C, a very limited  number made. Last of the small door 891's

Vendo 81 b and d can bring $2000 or more approx. and you will be bombarded with emails and phone calls when you try to sell it.   the 81a , you will hear crickets chirping and you will have a hard time selling it and lucky to get $1300. Just trying to give you an idea about avoiding the A in my opinion.

Wow... I'd like to be around your place when you roll your 81a's to the curb on garbage day.  smile Never mind that there are $1500 worth of very sought after parts in them. I'll buy an 81a anytime if the price is right.

Totally agree, 2K min. When I said the A was the least desirable that doesn't mean not desirable. I myself love the A. Besides, the A will always be sought after when you buy the B and D then you'll need the A to complete the set.  biggrin
