then peel off the decal and clear over the whole cooler.

Nice Rod, but there will be some build-up of paint when the decals are peeled off....are these edges able to be sanded before clearcoating?

Well that was my original intention, but I could not find that 7up decal anywhere or even a template to make one from.  Any source for something like this in the small cooler size?

So do you get a square of vinyl from the sign shop then trace and cut your own template?

These guys are better than I am but I did do a slider once............... masked it all off by hand.  darn
The idea is to have the computer copy your photo of the logo, re-size then print it on vinyl and punch out the sections you select.
7-up is probably the most difficult of all with 3 colors, but here's how I did it:
Paint the orange section first. Use the template to mask off the orange, then paint the cooler white.
The black shadows can be done last, and they're are pretty easy to do with fine masking tape.

Its not as complicated on the carry cooler since it is a single color.  I taped a piece of paper over the logo then did a pencil rub over it.  I made a square out of a double layer of painters tape then used the pencil rub to cut a template into the painters tape square.  Painted the whole area red then used the tape template to mask off the logo and painted white.  It worked pretty well but it could be a bit crisper.
