I looked at mine last night and I have about a 1/4 gap from the top of my pan to the bottom side of the cabinet..

I put a flashlight in and I have the heater just submerged a little bit from the top of the oil..  I'd say I have about 1/8" of oil on top of my heater..

seems to work fine for me..

Thanks . That's what I was worried about the heater not being submerged completely .
