I am going to do a full restoration on it. I think this is going to be the first machine for me to keep. My ad in the paper is short and to the point.
Wanted 1950's, 60's and 70's soda machines. any condition any brand will pay Cash

I get about 4 calls a week. Some people think they are going to finance their retirement on a Cavalier 64 but every now and then I get a good deal.

“Buying 1950s soda machines, chests and coolers
any condition. Pepsi, 7Up, Coke.”

You will still get call for 60s machines most have no idea.
So far I've got a call for Westinghouse standard and 2 v-23 spin tops. Years past 72s and Ideal sliders.

I only ad in the 60's and 70's machines because I am wanting to start doing some theme 60's machines and I am going to try to start selling 70's can machines at the flea market on the weekends. I figure it is worth a try. I can buy working machines for $50 all day long and yesterday I had a guy call me with a selectavend can machine and a glass door upright cooler that he is giving me for free. can't beat that. I say that if I can make $50 each machine it is worth it.

I think I may do an ad at some point as well. Thanks for the wordage.

By the way, not to change the subject, but could someone please answer my questions over in my V-216MD thread in the Pre-60's forum. It has been sadly waiting for a couple of days. '>

How do you guys guage value when you get calls from your ads?  Is it experience or is there a little black book or magic web page somewhere?

Has far as getting a value I use Jeff Walters book.
I still have the second addition but I also watch eBay
at the prices they bring. I try not to offer anything over the
phone... I want to see the machine first. Then that's where I have the trouble.... Most think they have a gold mine
especially if it's a Coke machine. Thats' why I started this
topic how do you convince them its just a old soda machine?
Especially when it's sitting in the shed or barn rusting away?
But soon as there's interest it's a family heirloom.

Like now... I got a older man who has answered my ad
2 Vendo 23s got them 20 years ago for helping a friend
move.... What are they worth? He asked.....
One just closed on eBay starting at $700 -  NO bids.
But I sense this guy thinks he's gonna early retire on
these two....
Would like to have them..... But not at $700+ a piece.

Just wanted to hear what others have gone through...
I'll do what Pat suggested and go meet with him shoot
the bull for a while kinda see if I can tell what he's
wanting.....
I'm going up in a couple weeks I'll reply and let all know how it goes....

I'm facing the same dillema. Got a call last week from a man who has been restoring machines for many years.(Restored machines for Gerald Ford and Ronald Regan)  He worked in the movie buisness and is now retiring and moving out of state next month.  
      Wants to sell the last of his machines and parts. 2 Vendo 23's,  one Coke 144 and 1 Pepsi 144, Vendo 59 spintop, Vendo 39 no drum, Vendo 81D and VMC 81 generic. Plus misc. compressors, shelves etc.
       He is supposed to call me when his garage and storage have been cleared and all this junk is grouped together.
        So, I'm thinking, all I want is the 2 81's and spare parts. But the guy is moving after 32 years and this junk can't follow him.                 $2000.00 for all?'>?'>
