Hello everyone,

Not critical now but we where down for several hours due to a person that was able to hack into the server and establish file sharing capabilites which eventually brought it down!

At this point, I'm not exactly sure how this was accomplished but measures have been taken to curtail this type of activity...

We have narrowed it down to a company in Calif.
I don't believe it was any of the regular visitors but be warned if the culprit is reading this that should the activity continue, we will seek legal action to the fullest extent!

My six cents,

I noticed! I was jonsin' in a big way for several hours when I couldn't get my S-M.com fix. Glad it is back up and running.
It really sucks when we can't be here. '<img'>

Yea, I noticed! Glad you're back! This is the kind of attack that we run into a lot working with DSL/Internet access here with SBC, best to do a thorough system scan, it was probably a trojan that installed a backdoor access, trying to set the server up as a zombie for spam...or some little geeky-weasle with nothing better to do with their life or time. looks like you I.T. people got you back up pretty quickly!

you'd be surprised how many people think they just have a problem with their DSL/Broadband service or a slow computer, untill I run a spyware scan & show them the multitude of trojans, browser/hijacker's & spyware & tracking adware that they have on their machines! yikes!

Happy that all was able to be recovered! Have suffered these attacks on my business site as well. Lots of bad people up to bad things. Wish they would get a better hobby.

Everyone should have virus, firewall and spyware protection software. Keep the programs current with the latest updates.

If you buy online with a credit card get one just for that purpose and only keep enough in the account to cover purchases.

Sadly this is a problem that is just going to get worse.

I, too, had a bit of SMC withdrawal yesterday.  I'm here every day.  Great bunch of people on this board.  ':<img:'>
