Just wondering what you guys all think about vinyl lettering on machines such as the 39, 80 or 81's.
I bought a vendo 80 a while back with plans on restoration one day (the last machine on my list to restore) yet I've come across a machine that I think I can get at a great price, yet it has the vinyl decal lettering instead of hand painted.

I figure I could get this machine for half of what it would cost me to restore, AND the fact that I got my 80 for dirt cheap, I know I can sell it for what a 39 goes for (around me).

(I don't have a picture of the machine, so don't reply with that bouncy sign above lol)

Thanks!

Ed,

If you are doing a Grade 1 restoration, I would have them painted or screened on.  If you are leaving it alone, decals are fine.  Are you plan on tearing it down?

Brian

I'm not sure unless I check out the machine in person.
The reason why I'm thinking of it is because my 80 is in the garage, tucked away awaiting a resto.  The machine works and all, but the paint is FAR from being an acceptable machine to bring into the house.

I know it would be a few years before I restore my 80.  And if this machine was restored in a good enough way (not top notch I assume, but at least it it were torn down, painted then put back, rather than painting with all parts on) I may just keep it as is.... it is just an 80.

Paint the embossed area white, apply the decals, then shoot the red (or what ever color) paint next and then peal off the decals
BOOM! White painted letters! then clear coat... that's what I've done to my NK cooler.. the letters are perfect! and I believe that is what Rod
does with his restorations.
