What goes in the 2 holes on the outside lower portion of the top chrome bezel? I was thinking of using 2 stainless carriage bolts.

They were just small #8 Phillips head or slotted machine thread screws, but blind-headed screws will work, (they look like rivets, but are threaded on the shaft, same line of thought as your carriage bolt idea)
