ok, this is just a suggestion from a newbie, but this is what i found. The rustoleum primer and clear coat was very gummy even after 24 or mores hours of dry time. When I tried to sand it, it stuck the the sandpaper something terrible. When i painted it was not humid at all but was very hot that may have contrbuted a bit to the problem.
But during the same period I used duplicolor spray paint on some stuff and the primer and clearcoat sanded very nicely. It came off easy and never stuck in the sandpaper. Both times i was using 3m 400 grit sandpaper. And the clear buffed out rather nicely also.
Again it could be user error but I had much better luck with duplicolor spray can paint. It costs a bit more but for me it was worth it. especially with the primer. They have a high build formula that worked well and you could sand it within 20 minutes. I did wait longer just to be sure but it did sand nicely very quickly.
but as stated earlier whatever you do just try to have fun with it. I just finished mine and it was so much fun the last few months fixing it up and getting it running again. I hope it lasts a long time.
good luck with your project kevin

I'm a fan of Duplicolor, the cans seem to have a more consistent spray pattern as well. One good tip if you're going to buy it, order online through Advance Auto, and use a coupon code from here on the checkout page: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1219852/Those coupons are always available (though they change) but you can save big $$, works on all auto parts too

It is yours do as you please , I have a friend who sends all his machines and gas pumps to a body shop and has them redone. He saw my visible pump and almost fainted, he said how did you paint that and I said just like it was painted in 1923 with a brush.

Very nice. I like square tops, they look nice and they are very practical. The older round tops are neat but they don't usually work with modern bottles and aren't friendly with cans. They also prcied very nicely. The round tops can be very pricey.

Hey, cjward, I just bought that exact machine.......serial number 4688. It cools like a beast. I replaced the door seal and I quit measuring at 26 degrees on the thermometer.
I obviously need a new thermostat (which I have).......just need to install.
Really cool machine.
I'm missing 6 of the 8 shelves and the main door handle/latch..........looks like yours is missing too.
Oddly enough, I'm in Indiana, too.

You're close enough to be an auxiliary member of the Michigan Mafia. If you survive the initiation

Kilroy was here! Funny. What does the Michigan mafia require? Not sure what that's all about.
