Cavilier 72

Looking at an original. Clean, in working order. All parts are there . Is $1800 way off base. Was on ebay this  past week. Reserve not met.

If you are able to post some pictures that would be helpful.

Is it a nice original machine that is working properly?  Or does it need to be restored?

If it needs to be restored I would NOT pay 1800.  If its complete needing restored I would start at a price of $750.

No, $1,800 is not off base for a clean original that can be left as is but that is close to the high end on that machine. Also for that price it would need to be a large letter 72.

I think $1800 is ok to spend on a working, presentable, original if it is a large letter machine. But if you are trying to flip it, you might be at all of the money.

Wow, $1800 for a working c-72?  They has always been $750-1000 for a good complete original.  I own a couple and that is what I have paid.  Am I missing something or are some of you  wishfull thinkers who "flip" stuff.

       We find the same prices here on the west coast too, but the one in mention did not need to be refinished saving a ton of money in the long run.

If your selling nice clean working Cav-72's for $750 each that don't need restoration I'll take a bakers dozen!! LOL 

Did you buy them recently for that price and did they fly the day they hit craigs list or did they sit to get a market price? In my area, I'm finding that people want a good original and are ok with some patina. (Age, not a rusty POS)

Also, people around here are hesitant to pay the 6-7000 for a restored machine, but will drop a lot more then expected on an original. Every place is different, but putting a perfect restored machine in a 150 year old house along with other antiques just doesn't always fit. If you are building a 4000 sq ft McMansion, you probably want the perfectly restored one for your home theater.

$1,800 is not out of line at all, what one's pays for a machine means nothing. I just bought a 72 about a month ago off CL for $299, complete working original. With that being said I wouldn't think $500 is too much for a 72 just because I bought mine for $201 less. I know I got REAL lucky to find it for that price. I know some of you frown on the word "flip" but that is exactly what I did, for $2,200. Owned the machine for about a week. I loved finding it, buying it, owning it, and selling it. I had no need to keep it as I wasn't going to use or restore it so I sold it. Shared a little profit with my wife and kids and we move on, no biggie.
