Guys,
I took my stainless steel cooler tub into be powdercoated. They sandblasted the tub, but realized they would not be able to powdercoat the tub since it was soldered together and the heat from the oven would melt the solder. So....now that it is sandblasted, what are my options for finishing? Hammertone?

I thought most machine liners/tubs were spot welded together?? Never seen a soldered tub! Wait - are you referring to a carry cooler?? Even those I thought were spot welded together.

The stainless tubs were designed to hold water so some type of sealant needed to be used. I'm sure you could powdercoat this and use your own sealant later, if you need it.

It's a tub from a WE-6. Here's a pic pre-sandblasted. Not a great pic, but give you an idea. Ill get a pic of the tub sandblasted up tonight. Hammertone is he way I'd go.
How do you apply to this? Spray or brush?

Hmm, I thought stainless steel was soldered with silver-solder as lead/tin wouldn't stick to it...if so, then it would handle the 400-degree powder-coat bake oven just fine, as silver solder does not melt until it reaches approx. 840-degrees-Faranheight .

They put it in the oven, and the solder started to melt. There was a small puddle, so they pulled it out immediately.

I've got a 1940 SS tub out of a 36inch cooler I thought it was welded. I guess I will go look tomorrow.
