Thanks Markito. I use to be a Coke only guy too but dispensers lead me astray. To answer your questions yes it is mint (one of the reason I couldn’t pass it up) as for how that happens pure luck. As for the year it is really hard to date some dispensers, I know that Cornelius started making this type of dispenser in the late fifties, this one has 66 hand written on the inside of both the back and front body sections so it may have been made in 1966 but don’t know for sure.

One more added the Dole Small was only in production for one year 1941 and was in low demand at the time so very few where made and not many survived.

Guys great pictures.

My wife bought me a Dole Coke Dispenser off of E-Bay.  It is late 50's, "motor boat", looks complete

Question , is it possible to get these functioning???    I was going to put a bar in my basement.  Now I am thinking soda fountain. I think I am hooked on soda stuff.

If it can be done, what do I need to do?

Any help greatly appreciatted.

Hey John,
 I don’t know too much about hooking them up and making the functional. Here are my thoughts on what I can think of.
1.   The best dispenser to try and get back up and running are the pre-mix units. The ones from the being (late fifties) are the same basic set up that is used today so getting parts and with a few modifications you should be able to get the job done. The late sixties and early seventies units would be even easier to convert.
2.   The post-mix units would need more work to get running. The biggest problem is with the valves. These units have the syrup tank and a separate hook up for the Co2. I would guess you could make one functional but would need to be creative with modifying the old part to work with what is available today.
3.   Any modification to these older dispensers can ruin their value. Dispensers are becoming more collectable and I have seen the prices going up fairly steadily. The idea of having a working vintage dispenser is really cool as long as it can be put back to original condition it shouldn’t be a problem.
4.   The last and biggest concern I have about the older dispensers is the use of lead fittings. The earl dispensers (30’s, 40’s and 50’s?) used lead fitting, solder and even lead tubing. I am not an expert in this and don’t know when they stopped using lead in them. So I would be very cautious when retro fitting and old dispenser to dispense a drink product.
