Coin Door Removal/Refinishing Question

I am in the process of my first restore on a Vendo 56 Square Top Coke machine and came across an issue with the coin door. It appears that the hinge attached to the door has some sort of rivets on it and not screws. How do I remove these or is there a way to sandblast and paint around it? If I do remove it do I have use some sort of rivets to reattach it? See the picture below in which you can see the rivet heads showing on the red painted coin door.
