Hi All,
Has anyone ever done anything with an old Coke box that is made of wood with a metal liner?  All it is is a cooler basically...no mechanics or anything, just a box.  Is there a reference to those anywhere on these sites that might show a picture of these type things?  Thanks.  Sorry, I don't have any pictures right now, but will try and post something soon if I can get back to it.

There are several manufacturers/models in the Soda Machines Section...
For the sake of brevity, post a couple of pictures and we can go from there in the hopes of narrowing down what you might be looking at...

Sounds like it could be home made. Without pics, anything is speculation

Unfortunately, that's what I figured, you'd need pictures.  I will see what I can do and get some this week and get them posted.  Thanks!

Very cool pics!!!  I saw the ones you're talking about.  They're close, but the one I'm looking at sits on the floor and not on a stand like those shown in the pics.  I really gotta get some pics to post!!  Haha.  I'll see what I can do over the weekend.

Yep, sad but true, the Dad past away some time ago, & the mom recently, so per their wishes, the children are dispersing he majority via an Auction this September to benefit some of the couples charity's. I was staying at the Holiday inn next to the museum recently on business just last month & cauth them with the back doors open while inventorying & cataloging for the upcoming auction.

Sept. 17/18.  From what I read, the first 750 or so lots will be sold, then other auctions will be held later. If they are selling everything, that will take quite a few weekends.

Wow, that really does suck!!  What a collection for all of those folks, like us, that enjoy that sort of thing and even have a collection of their/our own.  Is nice to see a museum to compare your own items to in order to see if you have something perhaps the museum does not.  Perhaps someone else will buy most of it and start their own museum.  I'm guessing the family is in no way tied to the Coca-Cola company?  I would think the company would purchase it in order to maintain such a legacy.  Sad nonethe less.   down

Ok All,
So I have made a trade/deal with the guy that has the wood cooler box I had referred to in the beginning of this thread.  I traded my V-216 for it and $450.  I thought that was a pretty good deal.  As soon as I can get pics of it, I will get them posted.  I'm hoping to get some tomorrow, so keep a watch!!

The article I saw/heard/read mentioned that Coca Cola will probably be bidding on some of the Schmidt items because they are so rare that even CC doesn't have an example. The collection is a multi-million dollar collection over and over.

That doesn't look that old... Looks like something you would see in a amusement park I think
the logo and style doesn't look like anything from the 20s-30s.... I lean more towards 70s-80s

yes it does look much newer. I am sorry to say this but I think you got a pretty raw deal. The cooler is either much newer or at least the cooler has been painted recently as the coke script is very new like late 80's to 90's new.

that “MR” ? glare  Hhhmmmmm don't know what that is....
The older models would have had “REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.” under it or
“REGISTERED TRADE MARK” (or something close to that) in the tail of the “C” in “Coca”.
And the red color isn't the old “Blood” red Coke used back then....
Still a neat piece... just not as old. Would like to know what the entire “RENO” emblem said that
was on the side... maybe (probably had) model number and or date.

Looks almost like the info on the side was rubbed off. Probably had a date that the last owner didn't want to reveal

The rubbed out logo, when you can see the whole thing, looks more like it just rubbed up against something and just happen to be in that location.  Does not appear to be anything recent.  I appreciate the information, but am hoping, for my sake, that since this is something that perhaps you guys hadn't seen that maybe it's a bit more "rare".  I'm not holding my breath though, haha.  I got money in hand and a cool looking coke cooler to boot and was able to make a bit of room by getting rid of my beastly V-216.  Please keep the feedback coming though if any of you happen to find anything more definitive on this thing.  Thanks a million!!!

So, did he give you $450 and this cooler for your 216, or did you give him the 216 and $450 for the cooler?

So, did he give you $450 and this cooler for your 216, or did you give him the 216 and $450 for the cooler?

If you got the cooler and $450 I think you did okay as the V-216 is a big not very desirable machine from a collector standpoint.  I agree with the consensus that the cooler is likely not very old and likely from Mexico as noted previously.  It is definitely unique and would be a great party cooler once is it cleaned up.

On the other hand, if you gave $450 and the V-216 then you did not get a good deal but at least you won't have to break your back moving the V-216 again!

Oh yes. I totally misunderstood. I thought you gave him your machine and $450 for this cooler! If he gave you $415 and the cooler for your V216 then you did ok. I am sorry. Your message really sounded like you gave him your 216 and $415for this wooden cooler. I was thinking wow he really wanted that cooler Smiley

Haha, no gents, I did not give up $450 and my machine for the cooler.  I agree, that would have been a pure mistake on my part.  I got the cooler and $450 in return for him getting the V-216.  As for the sides, I believe the entire cooler is made of planks and not plywood.  I could be mistaken though.  Unfortunately, I do not have it at my house just yet in order to confirm one way or the other.  I was mainly hoping that someone might be able to identify the cooler as being a specific make and model.  It would make sense that it may be from Mexico since I am here in central Texas and we tend to get a lot of that sort of stuff in this area...naturally.  Either way, my wife really liked it and as you guys always say, that's really all that matters in the end, right?  I am curious about the "RENO" logo though.  I was not able to find any information on it.  I thought perhaps that may point me in a direction to see other coolers like this, but to no avail.  I will continue to hope you guys will pick it apart for me!!!  Thanks!

Doubt it came form Reno, Nevada, my guess is  it was post applied, and nothing to do with the mfg, or  original location of the cooler.

Not trying to pick it apart.. trying to figure out age... planks vs. plywood, logo design, color, type of screws used to put it together, metal legs vs. wooden legs, etc.
Wish the Reno logo was complete to see if it had a model number or date... When you get it... check for dates
or patents on the bottom and along the inner liner.

That is pretty interesting--never seen one and now there is another one for sale!  Ken--you should definitely contact this guy to see if he has any manufacturer markings on the one that he is selling.  It will be interesting to see if your mystery can be solved.

Taking a closer look at the pictures, it appears as though the metal interior has been replaced with newer galvanized tin.  The newness is just not a natural coloring to be with that cooler.  At least that's my opinion anyway.  An original interior seems it would have a bit different color gray on the metal.  The pattern on the galvanization looks too new also as compared to what I've seen on older metals.  Just my observation.  If I am incorrect, please let me know, I'm still a newbie at this whole thing.  Thanks in advance.

I wonder if "reindeer" would have any bearing in this case.
