Production numbers and Serial Numbers

I get this question alot, "if I give you my serial number can you tell me when my machine was made".

I have that Vendo Serial number chart that I assume most have..

but the question is to production numbers..

assuming they assigned one serial number per machine , is it realistic to believe they made as many of each model it's indicating?  Seems high?

if so.
Vendo 81's production would be :  36,736
Vendo 39's : 80,910
Vendo 110's: 32,953

Doesnt seem high at all, Think of it this way they built over 200,000 '69 Camaros yet they are "rare" and still very desirable.

I guess if you divide it up over the number of years that model was made then it doesn't seem as high.  Whats the lowest/ highest serial number anyone has on a machine from the same year?  Maybe that would give a better idea to what was actually out there???  As for 69 Camaros being rare, I think that may have something to do with a unknown magnetic force between 396's and telephone poles..

How many times have we heard the stories of how machines were  taken en masse to the dump, found in rotting  barns open to the weather,  sold as scrap, converted to smokers...
The numbers are possible,  Heck, Wurlitzer made 46,000 1015's, but you wouldn't know it  trying to find a reasonably priced one.

Doesn't seem high to me either. Divide 36,736 by 48 (number of states) you get 765. The large cities would have had a bunch more to even out states like WA. where there seem to be none :-)

Yeah, Ok, I Stand Corrected... I guess I just didn't do the math... 

Looking at the chart.. over 138,000 V83's.. wow.
80,000 V39's

it seams that all the serials started at 1001, so that would be the lowest I believe.

I had heard that there were around 80,000 V39 produced so that would be correct.
