Question: if the middle part of the assembly is the slug rejector, what do you call the top part ? Upper slug rejector ? Can I boil/DW both parts ? Obviously I can't put switches through the dishwasher so the metal housing and paddles will just be wiped out/blown out.

The service manual for the wurlitzer doesn't cover much other than adjusting the paddles, it tells you to refer slug rejector servicing to NRI. I was told on the juke list that it's possible someone deliberately adjusted the mech to reject all except quarters ? (so they didn't have to count nickels/dimes)

I was just informed (via the juke list) that the top part is a 50c addon unit. I guess the half dollar coin just drops straight through the rear of the mech (the 50c paddle is at the very back), bypassing the 5/10/25c slug rejector.

The SR could have been adjusted to only accept one denomination, but I don't see anything missing. Easy to get back together.
Download one of the NRI rejector manuals from the SMC Download section (I think the 5800-5900 model is closest to yours 8000 series). Not a lot of differences between models.
Make sure the coin path is clean, rails are adjusted (& clean) and nickel anvil screwed down tight.
