Ambient temp for a cooling unit outside of a machine?

I just finished up my V-90 cooling system, and everything seems to be working great on it, compressor runs great after 2 years of sitting.  I don't have the machine to test it out in, but it is blowing cool air, which gets down to about 55 degress at the back of the evaporator unit.  Is that a normal temp for a unit sitting in the open air, is there some way I can test it all out without having it in the machine?

       If you block the evaporator fan and let it run for a while, you will want to see all of the coils ice up. If for example.......8 out of 9 ice up, then it may be slightly low on freon.

Temporarily put it in a big cardboard box that approximates the machines interior size, tape it up & with a remote reading thermometer monitor the temperature check the units cycling.

Thanks johnieg, great solution.  Put the box around it and sealed it somewhat, got down to 27 degrees, compressor kicked off, and its cycling fine now.  Nice to know its still in good shape.
