This came in an email today from Ebay:
Good news, they are offering free auction listings  from April on
Bad news They are going to add shipping fees to the final value

Time to get me web site up. I will miss the mass amount of people who access Ebay, but they push for free shipping,. push to charge you to ship via paypal, make you use their paypal service, now charge for shipping
Um, yeah, Let me know how that works for you Ebay..

The letter  partially  c/p here:

Also, because we know buyers take into consideration the total cost of an item, also starting April 19, to encourage sellers to keep shipping costs low, the Final Value Fee will be applied to the total amount of the sale--including shipping

I saw that also and I like to sell on ebay.   I am going to add a note at the bottom of my listings after they start that fee that because ebay is charging final value on shipping I am going to add a couple of bucks to cover the charge.

I try real hard to do actual shipping charges and they are penalizing the people that try to be fair.   I have seen small items up there for 99 cents and then 20.00 dollars shipping.  That should be who they talk to.

This will only encourage more sellers to leave & go to craigs list...or like 99.999% of the sellers already do, pass the cost over to the buyer(s)

And so it goes, GreedBay will position itself right out of the competition in the not to distant future...

If sellers  stay, I believe we are going see a lot of "canceled"  auctions where a seller and buyer cut a deal  off Ebay.
I'd be for it except  you have no recourse if the seller never ships.

Yeah, another great idea from Ebay, the same clowns who  stopped showing the bidders  not realizing it opened Shill bidding to a new level

So if you sell something, and charge the actual cost to ship, you actually lose money because you have to pay eBay a % of what it cost to ship it? Really?

When you list an item you can add a handling fee for shipping. There is a button to add it to calculated shipping prices. I never add any to this but now I will have to. I have really slowed if not stopped collecting for a while so I won't be selling much in the near future. Ebay is going to price themselves out of the market. I guess they figure that they are the only ones in town so they don't care. Ebay also owns craigslist and I bet they start charging to list on there as well very soon. I bet you will start to see $0.50 or $1.00 to list on craigslist

the way I am reading the letter, if you sell an item for $20, and shipping is 5 bucks, the ebay charge will be based on $25. Tack on an extra 5 for the grief, and the final value used to compute the charge is now $30.  The more you try to recoup, the more Ebay takes.

I'll still buy things I can't find locally, but there are other sites besides Craiglist  I will start paying attention to
