I have a vintage coke clock and it uses the 22wt round bulb. Every time I plug light in it blows. The wiring is correct , I have another very similiar. Any thoughts.

Sounds like you have a bare wire touching metal somewhere?

I would check the socket out make shure the ceramic part isnt cracked or that there is anything in the bottom shorting out the socket itsself. i bet ya the socket is the problem.

by blows I assume you mean the bulb flashes brightly and then dies. If this is the case. Then I believe Jim is correct your ballast is bad.

I had the same issue with a clock I recently bought on e-bay. Seller stated they didn't know if it would light or not because it didn't have any bulbs in it.( always means it doesn't light) Everything was in place but it had no bulbs. It had a separate ballast for each of the two bulbs. When I put bulbs in and plugged it in one lit the other shorted out as you described. I went ahead and replaced both of the ballast and both bulbs work fine now.

Is the ballast the piece that the round starter twist into. It has 2 wired coming out of it. If so where can I buy a replacement. Steve

No, the ballast will look like a small transformer, (probably black) you can buy them on-line. Funtronics has one listed for around $8 (14-20watt.) Their part number is 17B. The bulb you are lighting will need to be in the range of the ballast. (ie. that ballast will light a bulb in the 14-20 watt range.) What you are refering to is the starter holder. Unless the wiring looks bad it should be ok. You may want to pop in a new starter, they only cost about a dollar. If this doesn't help, post a picture of the wiring and bulb of the clock.

Thanks I know exactly what you are referring to now. I did replace the starter and no luck. The round bulb is a 22 wt. Will the transformer from Ros still work
